Freshman 15

Why is it when you cram in a four page paper at the last minute, you also cram in five million calories? Does the 32 once pop with the large bag of M&M's and the three bars of laughy taffy really improve my ability to think? Probably not. Does the consumption of sugar ease the stress of finishing the paper? Probably not.

And we wonder where the freshman 15 comes from...

Nervous eating?

I worked on a block system, one class, 3.5 weeks, the last week of the block was always a bad food week. Coffee, no sleep, running around, it is amazing how out of whack you can get! Hyper, then exhausted...

:) Good Luck!

It is because your brain runs on Sugar. As a computer programmer, I find I need to snack when I am getting a project done.

Your brain burns a huge portion of your calories normally. It burns even more when it is in high gear. Unfortunately, it doesn't burn them all off, so you still need to exercise, which also helps deal with the stress.

But the Freshmen 15 comes from the crap food you allow yourself to eat which might not have been available to a high school student living in their parents home...and easy access to the snack machines.

I know my school used to feed us heavy, fatty meals during the winter gloom period.

Doesn't help that we residents in the northern regions are forced to 'hibernate' through most of the winter months. Getting out and increasing activity in spring and summer months helps boost the metabolism! All the best as the semester moves forward.

All too true! I've forced myself to not even have the crap around because I know the instant stress hits I'll eat every last bit of it at once!
