A Big Buck

J.R. sent me a text message this morning at 7:30 saying he got a deer. I called him back right away to find out that not only did he get a deer, he got a big buck. He was pretty excited and kept telling me how he shot it left handed. I'm really glad he finally got his buck. Now I just have to figure out how to convince him that antlers don't go with any of our home decor... that could be a tough one.

Just one more reason why we need a house with a man room. :)

*And for anyone that is upset that J.R. shot Bambi, you just have to realize that here in the north woods it's a part of life don't cha know.

Dear Josie:

Even as someone who grew up in the suburbs of NYC, and spent the bulk of my life in the Big Apple, I've eaten venison before, and it's quite tasty.

On a more serious note, I think that bagging a buck left handed will probably be a HUGE psychological step for JR.

Best of luck on keeping the antlers out of the apartment.

Picture, must have a picture! Tell him congrats! Awsome! My mounts are all out in the garage, they don't go with my wifes decor either :-(. But they sure a great conversation piece when the other guys come over and tilt back a cold one.

Good for him! We are near the Illinois state line and my son will be hunting next week around our area.
I've eaten venison from up north (our family had a cabin in Crandon), and down here, and the deer down south are mighty tasty as they are primarily corn fed. Good luck on the antler mount, they make a handy clothes rack.....

Josie

That is one thing I miss about not living in western NY. Thanksgiving dinner was planned around the time that my dad and uncles would be in from deer hunting. Congrats to JR!He must really be stoked to know that he can still do some of the things he used to do.

Sounds like he is doing so much better. I am sure that varies from day to day.

All I can keep thinking about is venison jerky from my childhood. Up here we not only have deer hunting season, we also have moose, wild turkey, and pheasant.

I also want you to know that I have posted an award for you at Blog Integrity Awards.

congrats to JR! and I'm just thinking how glad I am we are NOT in MN right now. The friday before the deer opener.. the highway going North... the commute used to take HOURS...and I had to put an orange vest on the dogs, and bells (hey, remember the guy who had to write COW on his heifer after some idiot shot one of them??)

Hunting Season! Very cool. Bing dang deal when we lived in South Dakota. Not so much in Hawaii....

Once my dh turned an antler pen on his lathe - the antler was from a buck his grandfather had shot (is that the word? bagged? killed?) It's an interesting looking pen.

Just thought I'd offer an alternitive to the antlers on the wall or antler chandelier!
